DAKAR, Dec 8 (AFP): China has donated more than 21 million euros (30 million dollars) to build a second national theatre in Dakar, Senegal public television reported yesterday.
The agreement to build the 1,800-seat theatre was signed here Friday by Senegalese Culture Minister Mame Birame Diouf and China's Ambassador Lu Shaye, the television said.
The grant followed a request from Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade to the Chinese authorities.
The current national theatre in Dakar, with a capacity of 1,100, was built in 1965.
China and Senegal restored diplomatic relations in October 2005 after a gap of nearly 10 years due to Senegal's recognition of Taiwan.
