SINGAPORE, April 11 (AFP): The chief executive of DBS Group Holdings Richard Stanley, who was diagnosed with leukemia in January, is in critical care after his condition worsened unexpectedly, the bank said.
He had been responding well to treatment and doctors believed his cancer was in remission, DBS said in a statement late Friday.
"Unfortunately the unpredictability of the disease has led to severe complications due to infection," it said.
"Stanley's condition has deteriorated rapidly in the last 24 hours and he is now in critical care."
DBS, the largest bank in Southeast Asia by assets, announced in January that Stanley had developed leukemia and would take three to six months' leave for medical treatment.
Chairman Koh Boon Hwee has been overseeing management in his absence.
