CAPE TOWN, South Africa, June 6 (AFP): European Central Bank (ECB) President Jean-Claude Trichet again stressed the danger of hedge funds yesterday on the eve of a Group of Eight (G8) meeting where Germany is pushing for tighter controls on the industry. Trichet, speaking at a conference in Cape Town, South Africa, reiterated his belief that hedge funds were a threat to the stability of the financial system and called for close scrutiny of the specialised investment businesses. "While we all recognise that the growth of hedge funds has had a clearly positive impact on the efficient functioning of financial markets, it can also pose threats to the stability of the financial system," he said.
