NEW DELHI, Apr 4 (PTI): The World Trade Organisation, which projected the global trade volume to contract by 9 per cent in 2009, yesterday said the outcome of the G-20 summit demonstrates the capacity of the international community to leverage commerce to revive economic growth.
Expressing concern over the shortage of finance for the USD 15.8 trillion global merchandise trade, WTO Director General Pascal Lamy said, "Trade is contracting sharply, exacerbated by the lack of trade finance".
However, the WTO chief said the world has the capacity to revive the trade.
World's 20 most powerful economies in the grouping of the developed and developing countries account for 80 per cent of the international trade.
