India-Dubai trade touched $19b in 2007

DUBAI, June 4 (PTI): Non-oil trade between India and Dubai hit a record USD 19 billion in 2007, a 74 per cent increase over the previous year's figure of USD 10.9 billion.

Indian Consul General Venu Rajamony told reporters here Monday that total trade between India and Dubai from 2003 to 2007 has increased over six-fold from USD 3.5 billion to USD 19 billion.

Imports of Dubai from India rose about four-fold from USD 2.6 billion to USD 9.9 billion in last five years, while exports to India increased by whopping 39 times to USD 3.9 billion from USD 0.1 billion. Re-exports from Dubai to India increased USD 0.8 billion to USD 5.9 billion.

The major commodities imported by Dubai were precious and semi-precious stones, and precious metals valued at about USD 5.8 billion.
