NEW DELHI, Aug 22 (PTI): Trucks from India and Pakistan will begin rolling into each other's territory from October 1, in a move aimed at boosting trade between the two countries.
The two sides have agreed on a series of steps for the cross- border movement of trucks via Wagah border which include establishment of hotline between Customs officials of the two countries on either side of the frontier.
Trucks from one side would be allowed to go to designated points on the other side at the Wagah border for unloading of cargo and drivers will be given single entry permits.
So far, the trucks were allowed till only the border from where porters had to carry the cargo across on foot.
The operation of trucks shall take place between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. Pakistan Standard Time and 7.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. Indian Standard Time.
The two sides will open a dedicated cargo gate at the customs houses which would be connected by a fenced path.
