CHITTAGONG, Nov 04: The present trend of tax realisation without considering different aspects of earning may push taxpayers to illegal transactions and corruption would not cease to exist.
Taxpayers made this observation while exchanging views with the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Mohammad Abdul Majid at the Engineers Institute auditorium of the city Sunday.
NBR chairman, however, said there might be technical faults in realisation of taxes. NBR always advised removal of such faults as the taxes were not supposed to be realised by exerting pressure or threats.
Chittagong Customs Commissioner (import) Shah Alam Khan presided over the meeting while NBR member (VAT) Mohammad Alam, member (taxation, survey and inspection) Khorshed Alam were the special guests.
NBR chairman said, different steps had been taken to lessen harassment to the taxpayers. Those who were submitting returns with specific declarations under the self assessment system won't have to face any question for the next three years.
He advised the people to build the mentality of savings and said savings increased the trend of self reliance.
Former president of Chittagong chamber Ali Ahmed, BGMEA first vice president MA Salam, C&F Agents Association president Akter Hossain, Chamber Director Mahfuzul Hoque Shah also spoke on the occasion, among others.
