JAKARTA, Dec 28 (Xinhua): Indonesia and New Zealand are likely to resume their talks on free trade agreement (FTA) in March 2009, said an Indonesian official yesterday.
"We hope that the negotiation could be resumed soon after the signing of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-Australia-New Zealand FTA. Hopefully it could be done in March," the national Antara News Agency quoted Gusmardi Bustami, director general for international trade cooperations of Indonesian trade ministry as reporting.
He added that the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand FTA is likely to be signed in February 2009.
Gusmardi said that the negotiation between the two countries would focus on the details of agreements ever made by the two trade ministers, including Australia's request of Indonesia opening automotive market, New Zealand's request of Indonesia opening beef and diary market, Indonesia's request of the other two countries accelerating the abolition of tariff for textile products and garment, as well as Australia's investment in Indonesian agriculture and New Zealand's offering jobs for Indonesian workers.
