Labour fees to hit exporters in Bahrain

DUBAI, Nov 12 (PTI): Many of Bahrain's key exporters and firms dependent largely on expat workers could suffer massive losses when the labour fees are introduced in the country, a study has revealed.
"The country will also lose its competitive edge as such fees would be levied in the region for the first time," says a study released Saturday by the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).
The BCCI commissioned Ernst and Young to conduct the two-year study on the impact of profitability covering 300 companies, according to Akhbar Al Khaleej.
The research highlights the potential negative impact of fees which are expected to become effective early 2008 as part of the labour reform project.
