KATHMANDU, July 4 (PTI): Nepal has signed a labour pact with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which will grant legal recognition to Nepalese labourers in the Gulf country, according to foreign ministry officials.
Minister of State for Labour and Transport Ramesh Lekhak and his UAE counterpart Ali Bin Abdullah Al-Ka'abi signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) Monday, which will ensure an increase in the minimum wages of the Nepalese workers as well as grant them legal status in the Gulf nation.
With the signing of the accord, the Nepalese labourers will now be eligible to receive salary and benefits at par with workers of other countries according to the UAE labour laws, the officials said.
The visiting minister, who arrived in the Himalayan Kingdom Monday on a three-day visit to sign the labour agreement, also met Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and assured him that more Nepalese would be provided jobs in the UAE.
