KATHMANDU, July 30 (Xinhua): Some 561 Nepali youths leave the country daily for jobs abroad in the fiscal year 2006/2007, local newspaper The Himalayan Times reported yesterday.
According to official data, some 561 Nepali youths leave daily and an equal number of youths leave the country unofficially, said officials at the Department of Employment and Labor Promotion ( DoLEP).
With the economy not showing any sign of improvement, foreign employment has, no doubt, continued to lure Nepali youths. It recorded an upsurge of 24 per cent with the total number of people leaving during the period accounting for 204,833 against 165,252 in 2005-06, according to the statistics of DoLEP.
Lack of job opportunities and deteriorating industrial environment back home are the major factors that have compelled hundreds of youths to go abroad every day.
Although the Nepali migrant workers left for 32 different countries, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) absorbed over 93.5 per cent of the total migrant workers.
Of the total number, around 34.7 per cent or 71,074 youths left for Malaysia, followed by Qatar at 28.35 per cent or 58,084 migrant workers, while 37,797 outgoing workers opted for Saudi Arabia and 24,700 headed for the UAE.
