New Canada govt to protect citizens from economic owes

OTTAWA, Nov 20 (Xinhua): Canada's newly-elected Conservative government yesterday pledged to protect Canadian from the global economic downturn and suggested several measures to guide the country out of the difficult time.
In an austere throne speech delivered by the Governor General, the Harper government focused on the economy and promised to put all public spending under the microscope and provide targeted aid to struggling sectors, while leaving the door open to a budget deficit.
"Embarking on its renewed mandate, our government is committed to providing the a strong leadership that Canadian expect. It will protect Canadians in difficult times," Gov General Michaelle Jean said in delivering the speech in the Senate Chamber of the Parliament building.
"Our government has a clear approach to Canada's economic security. It will work with its partners to help address the current international crisis. It will maintain a prudent course for the country's finances.
