New US-China economic talks set for June 17

WASHINGTON, June 5 (AFP): The United States and China will hold a new round of discussions under a "strategic economic dialogue" on June 17-18 in Annapolis, Maryland, US officials said yesterday.

A detailed schedule of the talks, to be held at the US Naval Academy, was not immediately available.

The talks begun in 2006 aim at boosting economic cooperation and dealing with claims by Washington that the massive US trade deficit results from an undervalued yuan.

The talks have also centred on US concerns over China's enforcement of intellectual property rights, implementation of World Trade Organisation (WTO) commitments, "unscientific" restrictions on US agriculture products and barriers on environmental goods and services.
