Only moral education can help avert public sufferings

Again it is proved that only government can remove all sorts of irregularities from the society if it wants. During the month of holy Ramadan this year, prices of traditional Ramadan food items were same or in some cases lower than those of the previous month. This happened due to timely steps taken by the government. On the other hand government ensured safe and timely journey for homebound people to celebrate holy Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja with family members at their respective native places by alleviating perennial traffic gridlock on highways as well as maintaining scheduled railway timetable properly. There were no significant incidences of snatching, pick pocketing, ransacking, hijacking etc in the markets during Eid and Puja as a result of taking necessary steps by law enforcers. This is the government which made it possible to ensure availability of formalin and poison-free fruits, fishes and other food items in the markets recently. Thus the government enabled people to avert apprehension of price hike, deterioration of laws and order, time consuming hazardous travel to reach native places for celebrating holy festivals. So, it can be easily said that government can alleviate public sufferings if it wants seriously as nobody can ever be more influential than the government.

Now the question is: Don't we have any responsibilities or commitment for removing irregularities from the country without intervention of the government? How people's belief and commitment changed a lot in the process of maintaining peace in the society compared to the situation prevailed in the country a few decades ago? A few decades ago when communication facilities throughout the country were not so good and there was non-availability of transports, our businessmen and farmers marketed their rotten and perishable food items like fruits, vegetables and fishes all over the interior parts of the country without mixing formalin, carbide and other poisonous chemicals. Undoubtedly they made profit at that time. Our businessmen never think of hiking prices of essential commodities and food items during Ramadan and other festivals of different religions in few decades ago. At that time doctors' mentality was totally service-oriented and towards providing highest level of services to the patients. Teachers were fully devoted to their students for providing quality education. There were no incidents of question leakage and problem solving by teachers in the examination halls during public examinations. Engineers and contractors simultaneously had done their respective job with a view to accomplishing development works qualitatively. Officials in the public offices performed their duties and responsibilities only for satisfying their respective clients without committing any harassment. Politicians' politics was only for the welfare of people and community. Members of law enforcing agencies were the real friends of people.

But what happens in the country at present? Why are businessmen, doctors, teachers, politicians,  members of law enforcing agencies and officials in public and private offices deviating a lot from the right and rational track of honesty, morality and sincerity? Why are doctors and teachers busy with private practices/coaching instead of staying and serving their respective working places? Why are government officers harassing people instead of providing better quality services? Why are businessmen indulging in unethical ways only for earning more profit not considering its adverse effect? Why are politicians looking for shortcut ways of earning money instead of thinking people's weal and woe? Why are political activists resorting to vandalism and violence?  Why do engineers and contractors misuse public money and resources in accomplishing development works? Why are law enforcers getting involved in criminal activities forgetting their mission of protecting people's lives and property?

These types of immoral and unethical activities committed by the people are frequently happening in the country because of a lack of real education. Education consists of professional and self-education or personal education. Professional education is gained through study of academic subjects and this type of education moulds professionals like doctors, engineers, teachers, policemen, lawyers, bureaucrats etc. Personal education can be attained through learning morality, humanity, devotion, commitment etc. Each and every individual basically starts his/her learning journey for personal education from family and social environment. But this type of education gets maturity in the educational institutions. On the other hand professional education actively starts from educational institutions. Real education is a blend of both professional and personal education and it is the architecture of soul. Most of our so called learned doctors, teachers, bureaucrats, engineers, members of law enforcing agencies etc have only professional education. They have strong lacking of personal education. Because of absence of real education within themselves, their beliefs, attitudes and behaviour never change for possessing morality and humanity.

Since most of the people of the country are badly suffering from absence of attaining real education, therefore government has a pivotal role to play for restoring humanity, morality and commitment within people with a view to removing irregularities and unethical activities from the society. Government needs to execute existing laws strictly and impartially and definitely have to positive intention of alleviating public sufferings. Government shouldn't resort to nepotism, biasness and relaxation while taking stern action against all concerned who are responsible for committing irregularities and unethical activities. Besides this, government may take initiative for ensuring real education among students through motivating teachers, parents and students. Government is also responsible for enabling parents, teachers and students to realize the hard reality of acquiring not only professional education but also personal education to ease its task for ensuring safe and sound living of people in the society.
