MANILA, June 14 (AFP): Philippine export growth slowed to 5.0 per cent in April, with shipments worth 4.11 billion dollars, due to an easing in demand for electronics, the government said today.
The figure is down on revised growth of 7.3 per cent in March, previously given as 10.6 per cent, the National Statistics Office said in a statement.
For the first four months of the year, exports rose 8.1 per cent to 16.30 billion dollars.
Shipments of electronics, which accounted for 62.2 per cent of total exports in April, rose 1.1 per cent year-on-year to 2.56 billion dollars but were down 13.4 per cent from March.
Despite the slower growth, David Cohen, director of Asian economic forecasting at Action Economics in Singapore, said global demand, particularly for electronics, remains firm overall.
