SEOUL, Nov 6 (AFP): South Korea may improve its tariff offers to try to make a breakthrough in free trade talks with the European Union, a top trade official said today.
Chief negotiator Kim Han-Soo suggested both sides should sweeten offers in the field of cars and other industrial products.
"The (next) round of talks is very important. Both sides should make a breakthrough so that they can speed up the pace of negotiations," he told a radio talk show.
After talks in Seoul last month, the EU expressed disappointment with South Korea's offer, claiming it fell short of a free trade deal Seoul struck with the United States in June.
Brussels has offered to eliminate or phase out all its import tariffs on South Korean goods within seven years, and remove tariffs on 80 percent of them within three years.
