Tokyo trims Q4 growth estimate to 3.5pc

TOKYO, Mar 12 (AFP): Japan's government today trimmed its fourth-quarter growth estimate to an annualised 3.5 per cent, despite forecasts of a weaker performance as the US economy falters.
An initial estimate last month had shown that Asia's largest economy grew by 3.7 per cent on an annualised basis in the three months to December.
Gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 0.9 per cent compared with the previous quarter, unchanged from the initial estimate, the cabinet office said.
Concern about the health of the world's second largest economy have grown amid fears of a US recession that could hit Japanese exports and corporate earnings.
