Vietnam's GDP to post higher economic growth in '07-08

HANOI, Sept 18 (Xinhua): The Asian Development Bank forecast Vietnam will gain gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 8.3 per cent this year and 8.5 per cent next year, local newspaper Vietnam Economic Times reported today.
In its major semi-annual report "The Asian Development Outlook 2007 Update" on economic situation and outlook of Asian economies except Japan, the bank also predicted Vietnam will see consumer price index (CPI) of 7.8 per cent this year and 6.8 per cent next year.
Vietnam recorded economic growth of 7.87 per cent in the first half of this year, compared with 7.36 per cent in the same period last year, according to the country's General Statistics Office. In 2007, Vietnam has eyed GDP growth of 8.0-8.5 per cent, and CPI of lower than the targetted economic growth.
Vietnam gained economic growth of 8.17 per cent in 2006, said the statistics office.
The report said developing Asian economies will register an 8.3 per cent growth rate in 2007, driven by fast growth in China and India.
