10 killed in Rajbari road accident

RAJBARI, May 9 (UNB): At least 10 people were killed and 40 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses on the Rajbari-Faridpur Highway at Basantapur under Rajbari Sadar upazila early Friday.
Four of the deceased were identified as Alamgir, driver of an Eagle Paribahan bus, Babu Fakir, supervisor of a Global Paribahan bus, helper Jewel and passenger Payel.
Highway police camp in-charge Nazim Uddin said the accident taken place around 3:30 am when a Barisal-bound bus of 'Global Paribahan' from Dhaka had collided with a Dhaka-bound bus of 'Eagle Paribahan', leaving eight people killed on the spot and 42 others injured.
The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where two of them succumbed to their injuries in the morning.
Being informed, fire fighting units from Rajbari and Faridpur and police rushed in and recovered the bodies.
The bodies were taken to the highway police camp at the Goalanda intersection.
