10 killed, scores hurt as tornado lashes 7 dists

At least 10 people were killed and more than 150 injured, as tornado lashed scores of villages in Jamalpur, Thakurgaon, Sherpur, Mymensingh, Gaibandha, Joupurhat and Bogra districts on Monday late afternoon and evening. Besides, several hundred of thatched houses were battered, structures destroyed, huge crops damaged, and innumerable trees and electric poles uprooted during the storm. In Jamalpur, a tornado, which lashed four upazilas of the district, claimed three people in the afternoon. Besides 50 people were injured in Islampur, Dewanganj, Melandah and Bokshiganj upazilas. In Sherpur, tornado swept over the district killing three people and injuring at least five others in Sreebardi, Nalitabari, Jhinaigati and Sadar upazilas in the evening. In Mymensingh, storm lashed the district, killing two people, including a minor boy and damaging houses and uprooting trees on Monday evening. In Gaibandha, violent storm killed a man and injured at least 45 people, and also damaged over 800 houses. In Thakurgaon, an old woman was killed by lightning strike during a 20-minute tornado that swept over 15 villages of Sadar upazila. At least 50 people were injured and 300 houses damaged.
