12 lives lost on roads during Eid holiday

At least 12 people were killed in several accidents across the country during the Eid holiday since June 16, according to reports from agencies.

In Chuadanga's sadar upazila, two motorcyclists died and another was injured in separate road accidents on Tuesday.

The deceased were Raj, 18, from Madrasapara in Chuadanga municipality, and Mukul Hossain, 50, son of Nur Islam from Boaliya village under Chuadanga Sadar upazila.

Locals said there was a collision between a bus of 'Royal Paribahan' and a motorcycle driven by Raj in Boalmari area of the Sadar upazila around 4:45pm, leaving him dead on the spot.

Sajib, who was a pillion rider, sustained injuries in the accident.

Moreover, motorcyclist Mukul died in a collision between two bikes in Kiran Gachhi area under the Sadar upazila around 9pm.

Another report from Dinajpur adds, an ambulance driver died and four others were injured when a bus hit the vehicle at Fulbari upazila of Dinajpur on Tuesday.

The incident happened on the Dinajpur-Gobindganj regional highway at the Vimpur area of Fulbari around 11 AM.

The deceased was identified as Ehsan Ali (38) of Chandipur village in Hakimpur.

In Khulna, two people were killed and 4 others injured in a collision between a motorcycle and an engine-run van in Chakundia area of Dumuria upazila of the district on Monday.

Police said when a motorcycle was heading towards Chuknagar, it collided with the van coming from the opposite direction around 11 am, leaving six people injured.

In Brahmanbaria, two brothers lost their lives and another person was injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Ashuganj upazila of the district on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Rabiul Khan, 50, and Humayun Khan, 45, sons of Obaidur Rahman Khan of Merasani village in Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria.

A report from Lalmonirhat adds, an accident on the Dhaka-Kurigram highway in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila claimed the lives of a couple on Sunday night. The victims, identified as 40-year-old Babu Mia and his 35-year-old wife Roksana Begum, were riding a motorcycle that collided with a bus.

In Barishal city, two people were killed and five others injured in a collision on the Dhaka-Barishal highway at Kashipur on Sunday.

A bus collided with a stationary truck carrying gas cylinders, resulting in the fatal accident.

One of the deceased has been identified as Sohagh, 25, while the identity of the other victim remains unknown.
