The death toll from dengue fever caused by a mosquito-borne virus rose by 12 in the past 24 hours to Friday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the new casualties, eight were reported in Dhaka.
With these additional fatalities, the total casualties have reached 1,226, including 757 in Dhaka.
During the 24-hour period, 1,558 were hospitalised across the country, with 424 of them in Dhaka, as reported by the DGHS.
Unfortunately, the dengue situation continued to worsen, with the growing number of deaths and cases.
Health authorities are also witnessing an increase in new cases outside Dhaka, with DGHS reporting 1,134 hospitalised in these areas.
The report estimates that the mortality rate among hospitalised patients was approximately 0.5 per cent.
Last year, 281 people died of dengue, the second highest in the history of the country.
The total number of dengue cases this year has risen to 251,101, with Dhaka alone accounting for 94,618 cases, according to DGHS.
In Dhaka, there were 54,296 male patients and 40,322 female patients. Outside Dhaka, there were 96,921 male patients and 59,562 female patients.
Currently, there are 8,003 patients receiving treatment in hospitals across the country, with 2,358 of them in Dhaka.
Of the total number of patients admitted, 241,872 have recovered and returned home, including 91,503 from Dhaka.
