13 firearms, 153 bullets seized from Sundarbans

BAGERHAT, May 23: Thirteen firearms and 153 bullets were seized and a bandit was arrested in separate raids by police, RAB and coastguards at the Swarankhola range of the Sundarbans Wednesday. Police Super Shahidur Rahman said on secret information a strong contingent comprising detective police and Mongla Thana officials headed for the hideout of the bandits at 9:00 am. They faced a fierce resistance from the bandits at Joymoni Siddiswar of the Chandpai Range. After an hour-long fight, the bandits retreated to the deep forest leaving behind Muktar Sardar wounded.
Muktar, a member of the notorious Kashem Bahini, was arrested. —UNB
