14 more die of dengue----

The death toll from dengue fever caused by a mosquito-borne virus rose by 14 in the past 24 hours, including six in Dhaka, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With these additional fatalities, the total casualties have reached 893, including 596 in Dhaka.

During the 24-hour period, 2,865 hospitalizations were recorded across the country, with 814 of them in Dhaka, as reported by the DGHS.

Unfortunately, the dengue situation continued to worsen, with the numbers of deaths and cases growing everyday.

Health authorities were also witnessing an increase in new cases outside Dhaka, with DGHS reporting 2,051 new hospitalisations there.

The report estimates that the mortality rate among hospitalized patients is approximately 0.5 per cent.

Last year, 281 people died of dengue, the second highest in history of the country.

However, the total number of dengue cases has risen to 184,717, with Dhaka alone accounting for 78,103 cases, according to DGHS.

In Dhaka, there were 44,871 male patients and 33,232 female patients. Outside Dhaka, there were 67,827 male patients and 38,787 female patients.

Currently, there are 10,572 patients receiving treatment in hospitals across the country, with 3,794 of them in Dhaka. Of the total number of patients admitted, 173,252 have recovered and returned home, including 73,713 in Dhaka.
