17 more die, 1,659 positive in 24 hrs

Seventeen more people died from coronavirus infection on Tuesday with the government reporting 1,659 new Covid-19 cases during the last 24-hour reporting time of the day.

Of them, 16 were male and one was female.

Meanwhile, the number of total casualties from Covid reached 5,983 since the virus was first detected in Bangladesh in March, according to a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Some 14,061 samples were tested during the last 24 hours, while a total of 14,732 samples were collected across the country during the period, it said.

According to the official figures, the rates of both fatalities and detection from the disease remained almost unchanged at 1.45 per cent and 11.80 per cent respectively on the day.

A total of 1,886 people recovered from Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, the DGHS release mentioned.

The rate of recovery from the disease was recorded at 79.92 per cent in Bangladesh, it added.

According to the official data, a total of 4,12,647 people have, so far, been infected with Covid-19 in Bangladesh, and 3,29,787 of them recovered from the deadly disease.
