1st quarter GDP growth tumbles to 6.07pc


Bangladesh's first-quarterly gross domestic product (GDP) for the fiscal year 2023-24 fell
by 2.69 percentage points to 6.07 per cent, according to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data released on Thursday.
This represents a significant drop from the 8.76 per cent recorded in the same period for FY2022-23.
The nominal GDP size for the July-September quarter stood at Tk 11.73 trillion, while the real GDP size came to at Tk 7.98 trillion.
The BBS also finalised the GDP growth for FY2022-23 to 5.78 per cent, down from the initial target of 7.5 per cent set in the national budget speech. The country's total GDP for that year was around Tk 44.91 trillion.
On a positive note, per-capita income rose to Tk 2,73,360 in FY2022-23, compared to Tk 2,41,047 in the previous year.
