The number of people diagnosed with Covid-19 was 2,111 on Wednesday with the rate of infection and fatalities from the virus showing a downward trend.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported 21 deaths from Covid-19 during the last 24-hour reporting time until Wednesday 8:00 am.
The daily death tally from Covid reached 39 on Tuesday, a new high within nearly two months.
With the latest figure, the total fatalities from coronavirus infection increased to 6,275 on Wednesday since the deadly virus was detected first in Bangladesh in March.
On the other hand, after showing an upward trend over the last few days, the Covid-19 infection rate declined to 12.82 per cent on Wednesday.
The Covid infection rate was 13.83 per cent, 13.57 per cent and 13.07 per cent on Tuesday, Monday and Sunday respectively, the DGHS figures revealed.
According to the press release, a total of 16,469 samples were tested among 15,598 samples, collected across the country during the last 24 hours.
The official rate of fatalities from the disease remained static at 1.43 per cent.
On the other hand, a total of 1,893 people recovered from Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, the press release mentioned.
The recovery rate from the disease was recorded at 80.86 per cent on the day in Bangladesh.
According to the official data, a total of 4,38,795 people have been infected with coronavirus so far in the country, and 3,54,788 of them recovered from the deadly disease.
A total of 25,89,421 samples have so far been tested here since March, the DGHS figures showed.
