"Of those chargesheeted, 19 were mentioned in the first information report," said Monirul Islam, DMP additional commissioner at a press briefing.

"A total of 21 accused have been arrested in the meantime," he cited.

Mr Islam said, "Eleven students were directly involved in Abar murder. The remaining 14 accused were involved in different ways in the killing."

"Thirty-five persons have so far testified in the case. Abrar was brutally beaten from 10:00 pm to 2:00 am on the day of the incident."

The accused included Mehedi Hasan Rasel (civil engineering batch-13), Muhtasim Fuad (civil batch-14), Anik Sarker (mechanical batch-15), Mehedi Hasan Robin (chemical batch-15) and Ifti Mosharraf Hossain Shakal (biomedical batch-16).

Abrar, a sophomore of Buet's electrical and electronic engineering department, was beaten to death allegedly by some Chhatra League leaders on the night of October 06 this year.

The incident triggered a firestorm of protests on the campuses across the country. Many took to the social media to demand justice for Abrar.

Law-enforcers suspected that Abrar was attacked because of one of his recent Facebook posts, which seemed critical of some recent deals with India.

Later, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 with Chawkbazar police station.
