Three girl students of Rajshahi Government College were killed as a bus carrying them was rammed by another in a violent collision at Kantakhali near the city on Sunday afternoon.
Seventeen more were injured in the accident in front of Kantakhali Jute Mills around 1am, report agencies.
The dead were identified as Tania, Mahmuda and Sharmin.
A bus named 'Lucky' was carrying female students of Rajshahi College and unluckily met with the tragic accident.
The tumbled into a ditch after the collision with the other bus, bound for Rajshahi city, which belongs to Islam Paribahan, on the Rajshahi-Dhaka highway, firemen said.
Rajshahi University Fire Service Team Leader Mostafizur Rahman said five units of the fire service took part in the rescue work.
Seventeen passengers were extricated from the bus and sent to hospital, but three of them already had succumbed to their injuries.
"Three among those brought here have died," said Dr BK Dam, head of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital's Orthopaedic Department.
Sunday's crash falls in a series of fatal road accidents, including some in the capital, in recent times that took the lives of a number of university and college students and a noted journalist.
