At least three people were confirmed dead on Monday amid political violence on the 28th day of blockade and second day of 72-hour hartal, called by BNP-led 20-Party Alliance.
The hartal and blockade programmes also passed off amid stray incidents of violence, arson attacks, clashes and arrests of BNP-Jamat activists.
Of the three deceased, two are BNP and Jamat activists respectively from Dhaka and Sirajganj, and one died from arson attack in Laksmipur.
A passenger - identified as Md Liton, 35 - was badly burnt, as miscreants hurled petrol bombs at an auto-rickshaw near Lakshmipur Mohila College on Sunday night. He died on Monday on the way to Dhaka for treatment.
Body of a Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader was recognized by the deceased's relatives on Monday morning at Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue. It was recovered from Rupnagar Beribadh area in the city on January 30.
The JCD man was identified as Ariful Islam, 21, who hailed from Ishanapur of Bhola. He was a student of International Islamic University, and JCD activist of the university unit.
His maternal uncle Touhidul Islam said he was picked up from Sadarghat by three/four men, identified as intelligence branch of police, as he was going to home on January 29. Since then, he has been missing.
Besides, a Jamat man, Saidur Rahman, 55, died while undergoing treatment in Ullapara, Sirajganj on Monday. He was shot during a police raid on Sunday.
OC of Ullapara Police Station Tajul Huda said Saidur, who died at Sirajganj Sadar Hospital early on Monday, was the secretary of Ullapara Sadar Union unit of Jamaat.
Sirajganj Jamat called hartal on Wednesday, protesting the 'killing' of Saidur Rahman.
On the other hand, at least 13 vehicles were torched and vandalized and some 27 people were injured in the incidents across the country on Monday.
Lesser vehicular movements were seen in the capital than the other hartal days. Very few processions or picketing activities were seen in support of the blockade.
A large number of law-enforcers remained deployed in different parts of the capital to fend off any trouble.
In Gazipur, at least five people suffered burn injuries when miscreants hurled petrol bombs at a commuter train in Sreepur upazila n Monday amid the ongoing 72-hour hartal and non-stop blockade.
Witnesses said a group of miscreants hurled crude bombs at the locomotive of Jamalpur-bound Commuter Express from Dhaka near Sreepur Railway Station at around 5:30pm.
As the train slowed down after the bomb attack, a petrol bomb was hurled at the bogie next to the engine, leaving five passengers burned. The injured were rushed to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex.
In Old Dhaka, two people were injured in bomb blasts. Police said the incident occurred on Nawabpur Road at around 12:30pm on Monday. The victims - Mohammad, 25, and rickshaw puller Abdul Malek, 32 - were admitted at DMCH.
Half an hour prior to the incident several bombs were exploded in Old Dhaka's Adalat Para. In Chittagong, two trucks, two three-wheelers and a private car were vandalized in Hathazari on Monday.
Several bombs were exploded on Chittagong Metropolitan Court premises at noon.
