35 feared drowned in boat capsize

Thirty-five people were feared drowned as a boat sank in the Meghna River at Bheluarchar area in Raipura upazila under Narsingdi Monday, as a land depression from the Bay triggered rainstorm across the country, reports UNB.
Two bodies were recovered from the mighty river. The victims were identified as Abdul Hakim (65) and Sohan (2).
Police said, an engine-propelled boat, carrying 50 passengers, sailed from Raipura Thanaghat area for Baluakandi at 5:30pm. It got caught in storms, and went under the waters of the river at about 6pm.
Some 35 people went missing, while the rest swam ashore, and all those missing are feared dead. On information, police by boat rescued two of them. But they had to come back halting the rescue operation due to inclement weather.
Deputy Commissioner of the district said, the local administration was "directed to rescue the victims".
Meanwhile, one fisherman died and three others went missing as eight trawlers capsized in the Meghna on Sunday night during storms caused by depression over Barisal and adjoining areas. The dead was identified as Rubel (15). The missing fishermen were Harun, Bellal and Nur Nabi.
Sources said, a fishing-trawler with 13 fishermen on board capsized near Dhalchar in Char Fashion upazila. Eleven of the fishermen were rescued on Monday noon.
Rubel's dead body was found near Dhal Char while another fisherman, Harun, went missing.
Besides, seven trawlers capsized in the confluence of the river and the sea in Monpura upazila. Two fishermen of these trawlers - Bellal and Nur Nabi - could not be traced until Monday evening.
