Some 400 shanties were totally gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at Gonaktuli sweepers' colony at Hazaribagh in the city Friday, reports UNB.
Fire Brigade sources said the fire originated from an electric heater in a house at the colony at about 11:30am and soon engulfed the adjacent houses, burning down 400 shanties.
On information, 20 units of fire fighters rushed in and doused the flame with the help of police, BDR men and local people after two hours of frantic efforts.
However, there was no report of casualties.
