5 bank officials get life term in graft case in Ctg

CHITTAGONG, Oct 2 (UNB) :  A Chittagong court has convicted five bank officials and sentenced them to life term rigorous imprisonment for misappropriating nearly Tk 45 million (4.5 crore) from state-owned Agrani Bank.
The Divisional Special Judge Court of Chittagong on Wednesday delivered the verdict in the graft case filed in 1986 by the then Bureau of Anti-Corruption.
The convicted bank officials are Abdus Shukkur, Nirmal Mallik, Mainuddin Chowdhury, Kanti Sen and Kumar Ghosh.
The court also sentenced another accused in the case, Jayati Prakash Barua, to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and also fined him Tk 10,000, in default to serve another six months in jail.
In 1986, the Bureau of Anti-Corruption filed the graft case with Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong.
The six convicted people embezzled nearly Tk 45 million from Khatunganj branch of Agrani Bank during December 1985 to July 1986.
