5-man body to probe accident

The government formed Sunday a 5-member body to probe the tragic accident that killed eminent journalist and Consulting Editor of the Financial Express (FE) Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury Saturday night.
A day after the tragedy, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader disclosed the latest move of his government while inspecting road safety measures at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital in the morning.
Talking to reporters, the minister expressed his deep condolence at the unexpected death, saying the probe body will detect the cause and people responsible for the accident.
"The body headed by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority's (BRTA) Director (administration) Mashiur Rahman has also been directed to submit its findings and recommendations by three working days," he said.
Other members of the committee are Daily Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta, Deputy Commissioner Traffic (West) of the DMP Imtiaz Ahmed, Urban Planner of DTCA Nahmadul Hasan, Traffic Official of Dhaka North City Corporation Khandaker Mahbubur Rahman.
Senior journalist Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury, the former managing director of the state-owned news agency BSS (Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha) and also an international affairs analyst, will be buried at Azimpur Graveyard following two sessions of Namaz-e-Janazas -- first at Banani Mosque after Zohr prayers and second at National Press Club after Asr prayers.   
He was killed while getting down from a passenger bus at about 8:00pm on Saturday on his way to join a programme at private satellite television channel's office at Karwan Bazaar in the capital.
The tragic death of the veteran journalist also shocked people from all walks of life, including businessmen, academicians, chambers, government officials, senior politicians and law enforcement agencies and took the burning issue of road safety in front.
BGMEA (Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association) in a condolence message said the country lost an eminent journalist with the death of Mr. Chowdhury and journalist of the current generation has many more things remained to learn from him.
"A vacuum has been created in the journalism arena with his death, which is irreparable," it said after mentioning his outstanding contributions in initiating BGMEA-BUFT Journalism Fellowship Award-2014.
In another condolence message, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has expressed its deep shock at the sudden and unexpected demise of the senior journalist.
"The country lost a guardian in the media arena at his demise," the DCCI statement issued Sunday said.  
It also mentioned that late Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury was a member of 'DCCI REVIEW' a monthly publication of DCCI for a long time.
"DCCI will remember his contribution with due appreciation. May the Almighty Allah grant the members of his family enough strength and courage to overcome the shock. We pray for the eternal peace and salvation of the departed soul," the statement of the trade body mentioned.
Condoling the death, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) called upon the people to give information about the bus and its driver responsible for the tragic accident.  It said a case has already been filed with Kalabagan Police Station. The police are yet to nab the treacherous bus and its driver.   
Dhaka University (DU) Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique in another condolence message said noted journalist Jaglul Ahmed Chowdhury greatly contributed to the country's media industry and international relationship.
They also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
