Fifty-seven Bangladeshi expatriate workers who were jailed for staging protests in the United Arab Emirates to express solidarity with the anti-quota student movement in Bangladesh, have been pardoned following a bold initiative taken by Chief Adviser Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus.

UNB adds: Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has highly appreciated "benevolent decision" of UAE President to pardon 57 Bangladeshi nationals.

"We are, indeed, profoundly touched by your empathy and understanding," he said expressing deepest gratitude in a letter written to the UAE president.

In this context, Prof Yunus expressed the government's full respect for the laws of the UAE and renewed its commitment to brief and educate its nationals on the local laws and culture of their host countries before their departure from Bangladesh, according to the Chief Adviser's press wing.
