The official data of hospitalizations due to dengue fever in the current August are projected to surpass all the previous history as a growing number of cases were being recorded across the country.
The current month is feared to see the figure cross the cases of July.
The last month witnessed the highest hospitalization, 8-time higher than the month of last corresponding year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In July there were 43,854 hospitalizations.
Meanwhile, as of August 16, the health authorities registered over 38,000 cases, said Dr. Md. Habibul Ahsan Talukder DGHS Director (Hospital and Clinics) at a virtual media briefing on Wednesday.
Furthermore, as many as 72 per cent hospital beds dedicated for the city Dengue patients remained occupied as of Wednesday showing a grim picture of dengue hospitalization, he added.
The age between 20 to 40 years is 70 per cent of the total patient in terms of age distribution, according to the official.
There are a total 2625 hospital beds dedicated for the patients in Dhaka city corporation areas. Of the total, 1,890 have already been occupied until Wednesday, Talukder added.
Meanwhile, DGHS on Wednesday registered nine more deaths due to mosquito borne dengue fever, including 6 from Dhaka.
Meanwhile, 2,149 hospitalizations were also recorded on the same period of time till 8:0 am Wednesday across the country, including 834 from Dhaka, according to DGHS.
The ever worsening dengue situation continues to deteriorate in other cities.
The situation showed no immediate improvement of the dengue infection as the health authorities continue to grow the number of new hospitalizations, certainly outside Dhaka.
The dengue hospitalization continues to rise outside Dhaka as the DGHS reported 1,315 cases out of the new hospitalizations.
With the new casualties, the death tolls crossed 435 in dengue fever, including 329 from Dhaka.
Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the second highest in the history of the country.
Meanwhile, the total dengue cases rose to 92,024. Of the total cases, 45,230 were from Dhaka, added DGHS.
A total of 9,165 people were being treated across the country in hospitals. Of them, 4,002 were from Dhaka.
Of the total admitted, 82,424 patients made recovery and returned home, and of the total, half of the recovery made from Dhaka, 40,899 in number.
UNB report adds, people will get free dengue test facility at three hospitals run by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) from Thursday.
The hospitals are Dhaka Mahanagar General Hospital, Dhaka Mahanagar Shishu Hospital and Nazirabazar Matrisadan, said a DSCC press release on Wednesday.
The hospitals will provide patients with this service from 8am to 2pm every day except Friday. However, the free test will be available from 10 am to 2 pm today (Thursday).
Over 400 people have so far died from dengue this year and around 90, 000 people have been infected with the viral fever.
