83.71pc pass JSC, JDC exams

Combined 83.71 per cent students succeeded in the 2nd Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations this year, the rate being 10.67 per cent higher than that of the last year.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told journalists that a total of 82.67 per cent students have passed the JSC examination held under eight education boards, which is 11.33 per cent higher than that of the last year, while the rate of success is 88.71 per cent in the JDC examination held under the Madrassa education board, which is 7.68 per cent above that of the previous year.
The number of Grade Point Average (GPA)-5 also rose significantly as 30,852 students got the GPA-5, with 22,296 students added to the last year's figure. This year 29,838 students secured GPA-5 in JSC, while the number is 1,014 in JDC, the minister said.
It is worth mentioning that last year the pass rate in the JSC examination was 71.34 per cent and in the JDC 81.03 per cent. A total of 8,556 students got GPA-5.
Mr Nahid said some 15, 06,783 students have come out successful out of 17, 99, 947 students, of which 14, 90,045 students appeared in the JSC and 3, 09, 902 students in the JDC examination. The number of students in the two examinations also rose by 4,03,348 this year.
At the seven centres abroad, 442 candidates or 98.24 per cent passed the examination, while 33 of them got the GPA-5.
The girl students took the examinations in larger number compared to the boys, the former crossing the latter by 137,585. Some 999,349 male students took part in the examinations and the number of girls was 861,764.
The numbers of schools which have hundred per cent pass rate rose from 865 to 1831 this year, with the zero-pass figure schools declining form 367 to 141, the minister added.
In the eighth-grade public examinations held nationwide, male students did well compared to the female students with the pass rate of 85.07 per cent and 82.53 per cent respectively, the data showed.
Like in the Primary Terminal Examinations this year, Barisal Board secured the first position among the eight education boards with 93.13 per cent pass rate, while Chittagong Board slipped to the lowest position with 72.65 per cent success.
Among the top twenty institutions in the whole country, Rajuk Uttara Model School and College in Dhaka took the first position by securing 92.86 points out of 100, followed by the city's Motijheel Ideal School and College getting 87.08 points. Mirzapur Cadet College in Tangail secured the third place with 86.98 points. Viqarunnisa Noon School in Dhaka ranked 4th. However, Monipur School and College failed to occupy any place in the list, although the institution secured the first position in the Primary Terminal Examinations.
Earlier, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over a copy of the result sheet to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She announced the results of Jessore Zila School through a video conference call.
The public examinations for the eighth grade students started in 2010. This year, the examinations were held at 2,009 centres across the country from November first to November 21.
