Pass rate in the country's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations has declined by 4.3 percentage points this year, compared to the previous results.
This year, out of 1,473,594 examinees, some 1,282,618 students cleared the secondary level public examinations, with a combined pass rate of 87.04 per cent, which was 91.34 per cent last year.
The number of highest grade (GPA-5) holding students also declined notably as only 111,901 secured the top grade, while the figure was 142,276 in 2014.
"BNP-Jamaat-led destructive politics took its toll on our examinees as the candidates were uncertain about holding of the examinations in due time," said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.
The minister made such remark while he was unveiling detailed results of one of the country's largest public examinations through a press meet at the secretariat in the capital.
Earlier, in the morning on the day, Mr Nahid handed over copies of the result sheets to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office.
According to the statistics, rate of success declined mainly under eight general education boards as this year only 86.72 per cent students passed the examinations, which was 92.67 per cent previously.
This year, boys outshined girls by 0.69 per cent with the respective pass rates being 87.41 and 86.64 per cent.
Statistics show, students of Science Group topped among three groups with 96.35 per cent passed, followed by Commerce Group with 86.93 per cent and Humanities Group with 79.32 per cent.
Under the eight general education boards, out of 1,108,683 candidates, some 961,405 cleared the examinations, of whom 93,631 got the top grade.
Rajshahi topped among the education boards with 94.97 per cent pass rate, followed by Madrasha with 90.20 per cent, Dhaka 88.65 per cent, Dinajpur 87.16, Barisal 84.37 per cent, Comilla 84.22 per cent, Jessore 84.02 per cent and Technical Board 83.01 per cent.
Meanwhile, under Madrasha board, out of 254,622, some 229,666 students cleared Dakhil examinations with a total of 11,338 top grade holding students. A total of 110,289 students sat under the Technical Education Board of whom 91,457 passed the exams with 6,932 holding GPA-5.
This year, Shamsul Haque Khan School and College, Demra secured top position on the list of best schools, followed by Rajuk Uttara Model College and Ideal School and College, Motijheel under Dhaka Board.
Bogra Cantonment Public School and College was placed first under Rajshahi Board, Bogra Zila School second and Rajshahi Cadet College third.
Comilla Zila School topped the list of bests, Nawab Faizunnesa Govt Girls' High School second and Feni Girls' Cadet College third.
Jhenidah Cadet College got first, Police Line Secondary School, Jessore second and Military Collegiate School third under the Jessore Board.
Collegiate School, Chittagong was placed first, Dr Khastagir Govt Girls' High School second and Fajdarhat Cadet College third under the Chittagong Board.
Barisal Cadet College topped the list under Barisal Board, Barisal Govt Girls' High School second and Barisal Zilla School third.
Cantonment Public School and College secured first under Dinajpur Board followed by Rangpur Cadet College second and The Millennium Stars School and College, Rangpur third.
Sylhet Cadet College became first under Sylhet Board while Jalalabad Cant Public School and College second and Blue Bird High School, Sylhet third.
Darunnazat Siddikia Kamil Madrasha placed first under the Madrasah board followed by Jhalakathi NS Kamil Madrasha and Tamirul Millat, Jatrabari.
