The results of the newly-introduced Primary Education Terminal Examination were published Tuesday, showing 88.84 per cent stu-dents coming out successful.
The pass rates of boys and girls in the examination are respectively 90.44 per cent and 87.51 per cent. However, girls have topped the merit list securing the first, second and third positions.
Sabiha Sikder, a student of Monohardi Govt Primary School in Narshingdi, stood first obtaining 593 marks out of 600 (98.83 per cent). Dipannita Tithi of Arpara Shibganj Govt Primary Model School in Jhenidah stood second with 98.76 per cent marks, and Hasin Tanvir of RK Govt Primary School in Tangail stood third with 98.17 per cent marks in the examination.
Primary and Mass Education Minister Afsarul Amin presented the results before journalists at a press conference at his secretariat office at 3pm. Earlier, the results were formally handed over to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at noon.
A total of 19, 79,895 students enrolled for the examination, held on November 21, 22 and 24. Of them, 18, 23,465 students appeared at the examination, and 16, 20,054 came out successful. Of the successful examinees, 7,51,465 are boys and 8,68,589 girls.
Some 6,76,717 examinees secured first division, while 6,15,350 secured second division and 3,27,987 third division. Nine schools obtained cent per cent pass, while none from seven schools could pass the examination.
The minister told reporters that the mark-sheets and testimonials would be provided to the successful students by December 30, so that can get admitted to their preferred schools in time.
The minister said the best ten schools and ten students would be awarded by the government for their outstanding results.
