The government appointed on Wednesday two former bureaucrats, Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah and Md Jahurul Haque, as chairman and commissioner respectively of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Mr Abdullah is a former senior secretary of agriculture ministry and Mr Haque an ex-chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission.
To this effect, the cabinet division issued a gazette notification signed by cabinet secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam.
Of the appointees, Mr Abdullah will replace incumbent chairman Iqbal Mahmood and Mr Haque current commissioner (investigation) AFM Aminul Islam.
The incumbent commissioner took charge on March 14, 2016, which will expire upon completion of five years on March 13.
On January 31, the government formed a five-member selection committee led by Supreme Court Justice Hasan Foez Siddique to suggest names for chairman and commissioner of the ACC.
Mr Abdullah joined the public service in October 1983 and retired in August 2018 as a senior secretary to agriculture ministry.
He also served as a secretary to both housing and public works and industries ministries.
On retirement, he joined the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) as managing director on July 01, 2019.
The national anti-graft agency is comprised of three commissioners, appointed for five years, while one of them is designated as chairman.
According to the Anti-Corruption Commission Act-2004, commissioners are not eligible for reappointment after the expiry of their tenure.
