A parliamentary watchdog will suggest the shipping ministry and the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) to charge former shipping adviser MA Matin and ex-shipping secretary Sheikh Motahar Hossain with irregularities in the container management deal at Chittagong port, reports bdnews24.com.
It has also recommended cases to be instituted and departmental actions against seven others and also to invite tenders again for the contract. Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry Nur-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton said they had found the charges true against former shipping adviser MA Matin, former shipping secretary Sheikh Motahar Hossain, currently a member of the Privatisation Commission, and seven others.
The watchdog committee at a meeting Thursday acted on the recommendations placed by a sub-committee that carried an investigation, committee member Nazrul Islam Babu told the news agency.
The committee, however, did not find any evidence that Matin had taken bribe to land the company, Ishaq Brothers, the deal, Chowdhury said.
According to the charges, the tender was not invited properly in line with the government rules and the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) did not hold any board meeting before awarding the contract.
