The anti-corruption watchdog would probe into allegations of corruption against reformist politicians as well, as none was above the law, said the new ACC secretary Thursday, reports UNB
"If we get corruption allegations against them, we must investigate the charges," said Mokhles ur Rahman in a regular weekly briefing at the ACC office.
The Anti-Corruption Commission secretary informed newsmen that the Commission is investigating the charges made against two first-class officials of the commission. But he wouldn't name the duo.
Rahman said the Commission would be manned on deputation until the ACC recruitment rules are finalised. "Appointments would be given later on to the vacant posts not filled up on deputation."
He went on to say that, so far, the Commission had got a total of 56 and 363 committees on prevention of corruption at district and upazila levels respectively to put up the crusade. "Their main function is to create awareness among people against corruption."
The ACC secretary said the Commission has received a total of 42 thousand allegations since the January 11 changeover, following which the present caretaker government launched the crusade against the vice. Of them, 22 thousands have been recorded. "Documentary evidence would have to be made available against corruption charges."
He informed that a post of Director General for unfinished tasks has been included in the ACC organogram and 58 transport vehicles for the Commission have been approved to scale up the combat.
He further informed that Commissioner Abul Hasan Manjur Mannan and Deputy-director Shafiqur Rahman Bhuiyan would visit Singapore soon to observe the anti-corruption activities over there.
Mokhles ur Rahman said the Commission awarded five officials for their efficient activities in the chase against the suspected corrupt.
The Commission has decided that every Investigation Officer would have to maintain daily diaries of their work.
