Active Covid caseload on the wane

With the fall in the number of infections, the active caseload in Bangladesh has kept declining, a sign of relative relief to the nation that has been struggling with the virus for the past six months.
The gradual increase in the number of recovery and dwindling infections rate are contributing to the reduction in the number of active cases.
Active cases mean the patients who are yet to be recovered from the deadly viral infections, according to healthcare professionals.

With 1,282 new cases recorded across the country in the last 24 hours, the figure of active cases came down to 93,071, according to Worldometer data on coronavirus.
Bangladesh witnessed the highest number of active cases on August 18, 2020 when the tally reached 115,779. But since then, it has started showing a much-needed downward trend.
Although the active caseload is dropping, the densely-populated country is still hosting most coronavirus patients in the subcontinent, after India which has 962,071 active patients.
In the global context, Bangladesh ranked 10th in terms of accommodating COVID-19 patients, after the USA, Brazil, India, Russia, France, Peru, Columbia, Mexico and Argentina.
Saturday also saw another large chunk of recovery as 2,247 more patients tested negative during the last 24 hours when the country saw 34 more deaths due to the disease caused by the new coronavirus.
The state-controlled DG Health said a total of 10,723 samples were tested across the country during 24 hours ending Saturday morning.
Of the tests, some 1,282 samples were found COVID-19 positive along with 34 more deaths recorded during the same period, it mentioned.
With these numbers, the overall tally of confirmed cases and deaths rose to 336,044 and 4,702 respectively, a statement signed by DGHS additional director general Dr Nasima Sultana said.
Of the total deaths, 48.37 per cent of the fatalities was recorded in Dhaka division followed by Chattogram (21.18 per cent), Khulna (8.51 per cent), Rajshahi (6.74 per cent), Rangpur (4.74 per cent), Sylhet (4.47 per cent), Barisal (3.83 per cent)and Mymensingh (2.15 per cent), it said.
At the same time, it noted that the entire tally of recovery rose to 238,271. The recovery rate rose to 70.90 per cent.
Globally, over 28.6 million people were infected with the novel coronavirus and 920,460 died until Saturday 6:30 pm, according to Worldometer data.
