The Council of Advisers at its weekly meeting approved Saturday in principle the Fertiliser Management (Amendment) Ordinance 2007, aiming to prevent production and sales of substandard organic fertilisers in the country.
Definitions of organic and composite fertilisers, which were absent in the country's Fertilizer Management Act 2006, have been included in the new ordi nance, an official handout said.
Presided over Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed, the meeting was told that a section of dishonest traders had been cheating farmers through selling adulterated and low-grade organic fertilisers due to the absence of their definitions in the previous law.
The meeting, however, directed the relevant ministry to scrutinise whether or not the manufacturing date and maximum retail price of fertilizers along with the expiry date could be marked on the bags during the packaging.
After discussing the proposal for the constitution of a joint commission on bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Myanmar, the meeting asked the Foreign Ministry to scrutinise its various clauses and submit it again to the council.
It, however, asked the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry to reexamine a proposed draft on the National Human Rights Commission Ordinance 2007 and place it again before the council.
Held at the CA's Office, the meeting was attended by the members of Advisory Council, Cabinet Secretary and other senior government officials of the concerned ministries, the handout added.
