The ministry of finance has proposed the names of a number of noted economists for induction in the advisory committee on macro-economic affairs, which will recommend measures on various important economic issues, sources said.
The committee will start functioning with the approval of Finance and Planning Adviser Mirza Azizul Islam.
Besides, at least five top government officials, including the central bank governor and secretaries of the finance, the economic relations division and the internal resources division will be included in the committee.
The finance and planning adviser is likely to chair the first meeting next month as the head of the committee, sources added.
Among the independent economists, the names of the Muzaffar Ahmed, Rehman Sobhan, Wahiuddin Mahmud and M. Syeduzzaman have already been proposed by the Ministry of Finance (MoF).
According to the MoF proposals, the main objective of the committee will be to deal with the overall economy and make suggestions to help the CG in policy making.
A MoF official said the CG has decided to form such committee as it has already faced some problems in making decision on issues relating to the country's macro-economy.
Although the CG has opted not to sign any new deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) it will strike deals with other multilateral lending agencies like the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to carry out development activities in the current financial year.
The present caretaker administration is expected to take decisions on some big development projects like the construction of the Padma bridge and the second Dhaka-Chittagong highway jointly with the private sector and donor agencies.
