Ahsan Habib, a current member (Income Tax) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), has been appointed acting secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) and acting chairman of the revenue authority.
To this effect, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification on Monday.
His appointment came after the incumbent NBR chairman, Abdur Rahman Khan, retired on Sunday upon completion of his tenure.
Mr Habib belongs to the 15th BCS (Taxation) cadre. He secured first place both in the BCS examination and in the Department of Geology at the University of Dhaka.
He previously served as Director General of the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC), the intelligence wing of the NBR.
Mr Habib is currently serving in the rank of Additional Secretary. His rank is expected to be upgraded to that of Secretary under the President's special power before he assumes the post of NBR chairman.
