AL alerts govt, EC about 'conspiracy' against polls

Awami League's (AL) senior leaders alerted the caretaker government and the Election Commission Tuesday about "conspiracy" against the December 18 general polls, reports UNB.
The leaders urged the authorities to remain watchful and take necessary steps against any conspiracy meant to thwart the planned voting.
"They who are opposing the implementation of new electoral code of conducts are the conspirators," said Awami League (AL) presidium member Amir Hossain Amu, pointing his finger at the BNP-led four-party alliance.
He made the comment at a discussion meeting of Awami Sechhyasebak League in the city's Engineers Institution.
AL presidium members Tofail Ahmed and Suranjit Sen Gupta, among others, also addressed the discussion.
Amu said the BNP-Jamaat force was against the election, as chances were there for the Awami League to return to power.
He urged all the parties to accept the relaxed provisions in the Representation of the People Order Ordinance 2008 for restoration of democracy.
Meanwhile, at an Iftar party at his Eskaton residence, Amu said the long-pending election could not be meaningless in face of irrational opposition from a particular force.
