Awami League (AL) has been allowed to observe the death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15 on a limited scale, reports UNB.
An assistant metropolitan police commissioner in a letter to acting AL general secretary Mukul Bose gave the permission of observing the day with limited programmes. The party would not be allowed to hold any discussion.
According to the government-set conditions binding the permission, the party can place floral wreaths and bouquets on the portrait of the late leader and at Banani graveyard.
"Awami League can hold milad-mahfil and arrange destitute feeding in flood-affected areas or orphanages. But the party cannot arrange any discussion, stage any procession or use any loudspeaker," AL leaders quoted the government latter as stating.
"Criticising any activities of government or any person of the government, making and burning any effigy are also prohibited," reads the permission letter read out to journalists by Bose.
Earlier, the AL had sent a letter to the administration seeking permission to observe August 15 as indoor politics is banned under the present state of emergency.
