The Awami League (AL) Saturday finalised its election manifesto, putting food security and prices of essentials on the top of the party's election pledges, reports UNB.
The Working Committee (WC) of the party gave approval to the manifesto after a two-day parley at the Dhanmondi office of AL President Sheikh Hasina, who presided over the meeting. The ALWC meeting started at 11am on Friday, but was adjourned until Saturday morning.
"Party's Working Committee has finally approved the election manifesto. Our leader Sheikh Hasina will unveil it on December 12 at a press conference at Hotel Sheraton," AL presidium member Sheikh Selim told reporters after the WC meeting.
Besides, establishing non-communal politics and making the next parliament fully effective are the other agenda of the manifesto, he said.
"On the whole, the vision of the manifesto is to ensure welfare of the country's people," Sheikh Selim said.
Sources in the ALWC meeting said another prime pledge of the manifesto is to make education up to graduate-level free.
Besides, boosting drives against corruption and terrorism, bringing the war-criminals to book, removing poverty by the year 2021, increasing energy generation and electrifying maximum areas of the country, increasing the literacy rate, are among the manifesto pledges.
Meanwhile, the ALWC meeting also withdrew expulsion orders of some 529 leaders and activists. After the parliamentary polls in 2001, AL had expelled them for various anti-party activities including helping political opponents, violating party orders and directives.
"The expelled leaders and activists have been given a chance to work as primary members of the Awami League," Selim added.
