Awami League (AL) plans to formally propose a talk with the caretaker government (CG) to discuss and resolve political issues, which, they think, cannot be dealt with at dialogue with the Election Commission (EC), reports UNB.
"Political issues cannot be discussed with the Election Commission nor could these be resolved in courts anywhere in the world," said acting Awami League (AL) general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam.
He disclosed his party plan for proposing a sitting with the caretaker government while talking to reporters at his NAM apartment Saturday, a day after receiving invitation from the EC for talks as part of its ongoing dialogue with political parties on reform of outmoded electoral rules and procedures.
Ashraful said he received the Election Commission's letter Friday for the dialogue. According to the letter, 10 leaders of AL can take part in the discussion set for November 4.
He said the AL working committee, scheduled to meet on October 22, would take the decision whether or not to join the dialogue with EC.
The EC is holding meetings with the political parties under the staggered dialogue for reforms aimed at holding the stalled general election in a free, fair and acceptable manner, as conflicts over electoral issues created a political crisis and led to the declaration of emergency in January.
